What is In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) ?
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the process of collecting eggs from a woman and sperm from a man and fertilizing them in the laboratory. In order to increase chances of fertilization, a single sperm is injected into each of the retrieved eggs using a precision needle in a process called Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
What is Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) ?
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), also known as Artificial Insemination, may be an option for couples if the woman's fallopian tubes are patent (no blockage) and the man's sperm count is adequate.
What is Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening?
Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS), also known as “embryo screening”, is a test performed on a few cells obtained from the embryo and provides the following benefits:
Check all 24 chromosomes for any chromosomal abnormality such as Down syndrome and Edward's syndrome
Identify the gender of embryos
Embryos without chromosomal abnormalities are at reduced risk for miscarriage
Should I be considering IUI or IVF-ICSI ? Do I have other options ?
Each couple is unique and it is important to discuss your full medical history with an Infertility Specialist before making a decision. Egg Freezing
Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a process in which a woman's eggs are harvested, frozen, and stored for future use. It has gained popularity as a method to preserve fertility and extend the reproductive window for women. The procedure involves stimulating the ovaries with hormones to produce multiple eggs, which are then retrieved using a minimally invasive technique. The eggs are subsequently frozen and stored at ultra-low temperatures until the woman decides to use them. Egg freezing provides an option for women who may wish to delay starting a family due to various reasons such as career advancement, medical conditions, or personal circumstances.
