COMMON CONDITIONS WE TREAT
Some of the most common conditions that we evaluate and treat include :
Acne
Acne is a common human skin disease, characterized by areas of skin with scaly red skin, blackheads and whiteheads, pimples and possibly scarring. It is important to recognize and treat this condition as early as possible to prevent long-term complications such as scarring and pigmentation.
Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic condition characterized by facial redness, pimples and vessels over the face. Appropriate skin care, treatment of pimples and our laser therapy can help treat this condition.
Actinic Keratosis
Actinic keratosis is a pre-cancerous condition of thick, scaly, or crusty patches of skin. It is related to sun exposure. Since some of these pre-cancers progress to cancer, they should be treated quickly.
Seborrheic Keratosis
A seborrheic keratosis is a skin growth that appears the older we get. We use a radiofrequency surgical method to remove them without forming any scars.
Skin Tags
Skin tags are small growths that appear in creases, such as the neck, armpit, and groin. They may also occur on the face, usually on the eyelids. We use a special surgical device to remove them without scarring.
Cherry Angiomas
Cherry angiomas are small red moles that can develop on any area of the body. We use a laser technique to remove them quickly without any pain.
Cellulitis
Cellulitis is a skin bacterial infection that occurs anywhere on the body. We prescribed an antibiotic treatment to cure this condition.
Fungal infections of skin and nails
Fungal infection can grow anywhere on the skin and nails especially in humid and moist areas. This condition needs to be treated quickly before spreading to more areas of the body.
Tinea Versicolor
Tinea versicolor is a type of skin fungus that appear as round white or brown circles on the skin. We prescribe a combination of anti-fungal medication and shampoos to treat this condition.
Shingles
Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. It most often appears as a single stripe that wraps around either the left or the right side of your body. We treat this condition with anti-viral medications.
Herpes
Herpes simplex is a viral disease caused by both Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2). Oral herpes infects the face and mouth. Genital herpes is the second most common form of herpes. We treat this condition with anti-viral medications to relieve symptoms and prolong recurrence.
Molluscum
Molluscum is caused by a virus that spreads from person to person. People can get molluscum by sharing towels and clothing. They appear as pink or flesh-colored bumps on the skin.
Warts
A wart is a small growth that can resemble a cauliflower. They are caused by a virus infection (HPV). They are contagious and need to be treated when seen. We often use radiofrequency or cryotherapy to treat this issue.
Cysts
A cyst is a closed sac filled with fluid. Big cysts are often removed with a small surgery under local anesthesia.
Dandruff
Dandruff is the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp that appear white. Special shampoos and treatment lotions are needed to control this condition.
Hair Loss
Alopecia means loss of hair from the head or body. Many medical conditions or genetics can cause this condition. Proper assessment is needed to determine the cause and treat it accordingly. Some of our methods include treating underlying conditions or PRP injections as part of our hair loss program.
Eczema
Eczema includes dryness and recurring skin rashes that are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin swelling, itching and dryness, or bleeding. While this is a chronic condition, there are treatment to help reduce the symptoms and discomfort.
Rashes
A rash can be caused by an underlying medical condition, hormonal cycles, allergies, or contact with irritating substances. Treatment depends on the underlying cause of the rash.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated disease that appears as red, scaly, plaques over the body. While this is a chronic conditions there are treatments to help reduce the symptoms and discomfort.
Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a disorder that causes depigmentation of the skin. It appears as white areas on the skin. We treat this condition with topical medications.
Melasma
Melasma are brown spots that appear on the face. These are very common among pregnant women and women taking hormones or often exposed to the sun. We treat this condition with medical masks and creams to lighten the areas and remove the dark spots.
Keloids
A keloid is a type of scar which appear elevated and thick. Usually they appear after surgeries. We treat keloids with topical medications, steroid injections and laser therapy.
Mole Chekups
Moles or nevi are commonly named birthmarks. People who have growing moles, multiple moles and family history of skin cancers should be examined. We regularly check them with a dermatoscope to make sure they do not develop into cancers.
Skin Cancers
At Helou Clinic we always perform a full skin exam to check for suspicious skin cancers. Detecting skin cancers early is very important in treating this condition before advancing to a worse stage. People who are often exposed to sunlight or tanning beds should especially be checked regularly. People with a family history of skin cancer or personal condition of multiple moles should also be checked regularly.
